The Birth of a London Icon:
The B-Type Bus
The B-Type bus, affectionately known as the "Battle Bus", was a groundbreaking piece of engineering and a London original. First produced in 1910 by the London General Omnibus Company, it became the first mass produced motor bus in the world. By 1913, over 2,500 B-Type buses were in service across London replacing the previous horse drawn buses.
The B-Type had a stop speed of 16 mph - fast for its day! It was powered by a reliable 25-horse power engine.

The body was originally wooden, an open-air upper deck with solid rubber tyres.

Our B-Type replica is powered by a classic Bedford engine, yet still has the classic engine sound. The tyres have also been upgraded to ensure a smoother ride!

Wartime Role

When World war 1 broke out, over 1,000 B-Type buses were commandeered by the War Office. They were painted khaki, fitted with headlights, and used to transport troops and supplies across France and Belgium, some even as mobile pigeon lofts.

Today, only a handful of original B-Type buses survive. They are treasured icons of British History and engineering. Riding our 1912 replica is like stepping back in time - a rare opportunity to experience the vehicle that helped move a city and support a nation at war.
